ABOUT US
We are a group of concerned citizens who came together in November of 2015 in opposition to Access Northeast, a project proposed by Spectra (now Enbridge), National Grid and Eversource, to expand and construct unnecessary and dangerous natural gas infrastructure in our South Coast communities. We have dedicatedly shared fact-based information with the public about the true risks that this, and other similar projects, pose to our health, safety, financial security and the environment.
The members of SCNU take every possible opportunity to educate citizens in our communities of the danger and risks of this project. If approved, a 24" high pressured pipeline will be laid through approximately 3 miles of residential property in the town of East Freetown, to transport fracked gas from the Marcellus Shale in Pennsylvania, and be compressed and stored as Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) in newly constructed LNG storage tanks in the town of Acushnet.
