ACEC

In an attempt to enact better protections for the Acushnet Cedar Swamp, which was recognized as a National Natural Landmark in 1972, and is located within the New Bedford Business Park, citizens have come together to nominate the Swamp and abutting land to be designated an Area of Critical Environmental Concern by the Department of Conservation and Recreation.

A letter of nomination for that designation was submitted to the Office of Energy and Environmental Affairs on June 16, 2023, which can be viewed HERE.

More than 50 citizens have signed on to endorse this effort, including members of the New Bedford City Council and the New Bedford Human Rights Commission, as well as State Representative Christopher Hendricks. If you would like to join this effort by adding your name to growing list of citizens who have signed onto this letter, please do so HERE.
